General Description

The project strengthens and complements the processes already started by the base organizations in the training and economic sphere.  The project also aligns itself with the strategy agreed between the Government and the FARC to implement the reincorporation processes, through initiatives defined by the regions. These efforts allows aim to make  the mechanisms established in the Peace Agreement more effective, and encourage the application of comprehensive, inclusive, and differentiated approaches. In particular, the project reinforces aspects of the reincorporation process regarding inclusion economic, social, and political issues of ex-combatant women and their communities.  The project does this by: strengthening women's collective entrepreneurship; developing solidarity economy and care actions; and encouraging political participation, with an explicit differentiated approach that promotes the empowerment and integration of ETCRs with surrounding communities.

The project uses a crosscutting  gender approach, understanding how the enhancement of women's participation in community settings allows them to become leaders of change and contribute to the development of their communities.

Contribution to the Peace Accourds

This project empowers communities and program beneficiaries by enhancing self-confidence through the development of their capacities.  In turn, improved capacities and confidence enable local actors to take actions needed for the comprehensive improvement of their reality and their lives. The use of personal empowerment and skill building tools are  fully in line with the principles of the Havana Peace Accords, from a multilevel and multidimensional governance perspective:

1) Personal empowerment of ex-combatant women is achieved by promoting long term project sustainability and guaranteeing continued defense and preservation of women’s rights

2) Economic empowerment of ex-combatant women is achieved by strengthening income generating initiatives that allow women to develop economic and life projects.

3) Political empowerment of ex-combatant women is achieved through social communication and public participation in social and political contexts that allow establishing solid leadership.
